Acne Redness: Natural Acne Home Remedies The Work

These acne home remedies help you reduce redness naturally!
If you’ve ever had acne redness, you know it can often linger on the skin even after the acne is gone. This is caused by both the original acne infection and the healing process, known as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. (Redness from acne, however, is not the same as acne rosacea, a skin disease that has similar symptoms but is more common among adults than the acne teenagers commonly get.) In the worst cases, a bad acne infection can also leave scars — sometimes both physical and emotional.
The length of time acne redness lingers on the skin may depend on several factors, including the severity of the acne and how quickly a person heals in general. But as a rule, the healing process lasts from four to 12 weeks. Even when the redness has faded, however, dark brown marks may linger, especially on darker skin.
Cures for acne redness vary from expensive pharmaceutical options to inexpensive acne home remedies, and everything in between. To protect both your skin and your wallet, it’s a good idea to first try treatments that take advantage of ingredients you may already have at home or that can at least can be obtained easily from the grocery store. Below are some acne home remedies that work to reduce redness for some people. Remember, everyone is different, so try one method at a time for about a week to see if it works. Don’t do several treatments at once, because you won’t know which one was successful.
Acne Redness Home Remedies
Garlic
The use of garlic is generally the easiest way to lighten acne redness. Just peel a clove, cut it open and rub it over the affected skin once a day. This treatment may leave an odor on the skin, however, if not thoroughly washed off. If that happens, dab the area with a little lemon juice and rinse well.
Lemon juice and water
Combine a half-and-half mixture of the juice and water and leave it on for half an hour every day. Rinse gently with cold water.
Visine
While Visine wouldn’t be considered a natural ingredient, it can be an effective home acne treatment. That’s because it contains tetrahydrozoline hydrochloride, which helps constrict blood vessels. To use, simply apply Visine to the affected area with a cotton swab.
Toothpaste
Just apply ordinary toothpaste to the affected area, leave it on for an hour or so until the skin dries out a bit and the redness is lightened. Some people can leave it on overnight without ill effects but it’s advisable to try this method for shorter periods first. If you have very sensitive skin, however, don’t use this method at all.
Ice
This method is only temporary, but it can be effective if you want to lighten acne redness for a few minutes while you’re having your picture taken. Just press an ice pack against the affected area for about 10 minutes. This will reduce the redness just long enough for you to smile for the camera.
It goes without saying that if any of these methods irritate your skin at all, don’t use them. The right acne home treatment for you will diminish your redness, not increase it.
